Mailing Address Needed from ALL Members February 12, 2008

As Secretary of our organization, it is my duty to send out ballots for elections and ammendments to the bylaws (per Bylaws Article IV, Section C-4).
Our Bylaws state the following:
Article VII, Section 3 (Regarding nomination and election of officers)
a. Subsequent to the completion of nominations, the Nominating Committee shall send to each Section member in good standing a written ballot to be returned no later than June 1.
b. Members must sign the outside envelope containing the ballot and the ballot must be post marked by the date specified in order for the ballot to be valid.
Article IX, Section 2 (Regarding voting on ammendments to Bylaws)
a. The Section membership shall be notified of the proposed amendment within 30 days of receipt of the ammendment proposal.
b. The Section membership shall be balloted by mail on the proposed amendment between 30 and 60 days after membership notification of the amendment proposal.
In order to facilitate any votes of the types listed above, we need every member’s current mailing address. Please email beachswe at gmail dot com your name and mailing address. If your address is not received prior to the next vote, you will not have the ability to vote. Addresses may also be given at General Body meetings. A PDF of the bylaws is available here.

Tau Beta Pi has just released its list of eligible students for the Spring 2008 semester. Tau Beta Pi is the only honor society for all engineering majors. You can find the list in the TBP bulletin board in the VEC (near the elevators). For more information check out the CSULB TBP website here.

SWE will have a table at this semi-annual event. Stop by to sign up for the mailing list, find out about national membership, or meet our officers.
Outreach – FIRST Robotics
February 4, 7, 11, 14 | 3:30 – 7:00 pm | Anaheim High School
February 2, 9, 16 | 10:00 am – 3:00 pm | Anaheim High School
Help high school students design and build a large robot in only six weeks. All majors welcome. No robot building experience required. Please note: you must complete a background check to volunteer on a continous basis. Please email the officers for more information and directions (beachswe at gmail dot com).
Involvement – First General Body Meeting
February 13 | 12:15 – 1:00 pm | Location TBD

Thanksgiving Dinner November 16, 2007

It is that time again for SWE’s annual Thanksgiving Potluck Dinner, only this time, we will be meeting at Chili’s Restaurant (in Lakewood, see link for directions from CSULB) instead of bringing our own food to campus.
When: Monday, November 19 th at 7pm (Sorry to change the date, to those of you who attended the meeting this past Tuesday.)
** If you want to carpool to this event, meet at the SWE office (Eng3 room 112A) at 6:30 pm SHARP!
Bring your friends! This will be a great opportunity to have some fun outside of school and meet some new people.

WEATB: A Thank You November 15, 2007

Thank you to everyone who donated their time and energy to putting on this event. We successfully encouraged four-hundred girls to pursue engineering! Special thanks to IEEE for their monetary donation and to their officers for volunteering their time the day of the event.

Volunteers Needed: Women Engineers at the Beach October 9, 2007

Our biggest event of the year is approaching quickly and Heather needs a final head count of volunteers. We are taking volunteers who can donate anywhere from 1 hour to an entire day (8am – 1pm) of their time. Contact Heather (hlord at csulb dot edu) with the time you would like to help out. Be sure to include your t-shirt size in the email.
Location: VEC Quad
When: November 9th, 2007, Friday, 8 am – 1 pm
Volunteer Tasks: set-up/tear-down of event, serving lunch, running hands-on science experiments/demonstartions, chaperoning (all day committment)
Why Help: This event is the definition of what our organization is all about. It is about promoting women in the field of engineering and doing so through the inspiration of young girls who will some day be in the same position we are right now. So come help me influence these bright young girls and make the engineering field more diverse!
Leadership Training a Success! September 18, 2007

The leadership training session held Saturday, September 15th was a success. Students from CSULB and UC Irvine discussed the basics of SWE student sections, how professional sections can assist student sections, team building, and other important topics. Thanks to Autumn Smith, SWE at CSULB’s Counselor for conducting the training.
